At FORME Dental, we offer both Botox and dermal fillers as part of our aesthetic services — and the most common question we hear is: what's the difference? The short answer is that they work in completely different ways and address different concerns.
How Botox Works
Botox (botulinum toxin) is a neuromodulator. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles — the lines that form from repeated facial movements like squinting, frowning, or raising your eyebrows. Common treatment areas include the forehead, the lines between the brows (glabellar lines), and crow's feet around the eyes.
Results typically appear within 3–7 days and last 3–4 months. With consistent treatment, many patients find that muscles relax more readily over time, and treatments may be needed less frequently.
How Fillers Work
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances (most commonly hyaluronic acid) injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth static lines, and enhance contours. Where Botox relaxes muscles, fillers physically fill in hollows and creases. Common uses include softening nasolabial folds, restoring volume to cheeks, and enhancing lip shape and definition.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which makes them a lower-commitment option. Results typically last 6–18 months depending on the product and treatment area.
Why a Dentist?
Dentists have an exceptionally detailed knowledge of facial anatomy — particularly the muscles, nerves, and vasculature of the lower face. This makes us well-suited to provide precise, natural-looking results, especially around the mouth, jaw, and perioral area. At FORME, these treatments are performed with the same care and attention to detail we bring to every aspect of your care.
